Job Description

About the role

The position is within the Cat Tools and Technology team, which is part of the Catastrophe Underwriting Office responsible for research, modeling, pricing, and portfolio analytics of natural catastrophes (Cat).

The Tools and Technology team is leading the development of all the Cat applications in collaboration with IT to drive innovation and efficiency in assessing risk of natural catastrophes.

This role supports the Cat Tools and Technology Lead in ongoing projects focusing on improving the reporting and analytics capabilities by leading our data and reporting developments.

In more detail your main tasks are to:

  • Drive the consolidation of cat data in our central data warehouse and integration into a common code framework, facilitating the access to data from different sources to improve business decisions
  • Develop reporting applications and data visualization to process large data sets, enabling faster and more automated cat portfolio analytics
  • Advise business and analytics users on how best to use cat modeling and pricing data for reporting and analytics
  • Improve data quality that supports the automation and accuracy of portfolio figures
  • Support the execution of operational reporting tasks

Qualifications

About you

You are passionate to apply your strong quantitative skills to the development of tools supporting the automation of processes and delivering business solutions.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and personal qualities:

  • Master degree in computer science, data science, natural sciences (Climatology, Hydrology, Seismology, or similar), or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong ability to analyze large data sets and interest to apply the technical skills to solve problems and create solutions within the business environment.
  • Advanced programming knowledge (in R, Python or a similar language) and experience with relational database technologies (SQL).
  • Knowledge of Snowflake is a plus.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in data analytics or (re)insurance is a plus.
  • Pro-active, solution oriented with a high level of self initiative.
  • Ability to work well in a team and to contribute towards common goals.
  • Proficient (written and verbal) in English, other languages are a plus.
